We’re ready to work for free, say Buhari’s ministers

Following Friday’s pronouncement by President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigeria is broke and he might not be able to pay ministers, some minister-designates have said they are ready to work for free.

Some of the ministers who said this include Mr. Adebayo Shittu and Professor Isaac Adewole.

Saraki Begs PDP Senators(Over Amaechi's confirmation)

The Tribune reports that sources from both sides confirmed that reconciliation was ongoing and that the Senate president had reached out to the PDP legislators to sustain their friendship.

One of the sources said: “The Senate president is unmindful of the friendship between him and the PDP senators and he is not taking that for granted. He has immediately reached out to the senators and assured them that party loyalty was responsible for his actions. I think they are resolving the grievances.”

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina state yesterday swore in 13 commissioners and members of the state executive council.

 

After the commissioners took the oath of office, Masari stated his administration would not shirk the responsibility of providing education, agriculture, health, water supply and security to the people.


The governor promised that any of the commissioners who failed to live up to the demands of his office would be removed.

Cross River Governor Suspends Permanent Secretary Over Ban Of Prayers In Schools

The Cross River Government has suspended indefinitely, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Anne Odey, for “flouting civil service rules”, amid a controversy over ban of morning and afternoon prayer sessions in schools.

Jude Ngaji, the State Security Adviser to Gov, Ben Ayade, disclosed this on Friday in Calabar while speaking to journalists.

Amosun appoints 16 new Perm Secs



Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state today approved the appointment of 16 new Permanent Secretaries in the state.

Those appointed are; Dr. Ayinde Adesanya Ekundayo, Alhaji Adetimilehin Muftau Olumuyiwa, Mr Osota Kunle Lanre, Mr Adekunle Hassan Taiwo, Mr Olugbebi James Adebamgbele, Mr Kushimo Olufemi Emmanuel, Mr Odeyemi Oladipo Oladeinde.

Tribunal Sacks Taraba Assembly Speaker

Abel Peter Diah, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, has been sacked by Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jalingo, the state capital.

The Nation reports that the court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to rip Diah, who is representing Mbamga constituency of Sadauna local government council in the State House of Assembly, off the Certificate of Return which he got as winner of the poll.

Falana to sue Buhari over herdsmen attack on farmers

 A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Femi Falana, yesterday threatened to sue President Muhammadu Buhari if his government does not address the danger posed to farmers by herdsmen in the country.

Falan further threatened to sue both the Federal and state governments with large livestock populations which according to him will compel the government at both levels to establish grazing reserves and ranches for herdsmen.

It is with a profound sense of concern and responsibility that I address you over the judgment of the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal delivered on Saturday, October 24, 2015, purportedly nullifying my election and return as the duly and lawfully elected Governor of our State.

Why Tribunal sacked Wike as Rivers Governor

The Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal sacked Nyesom Wike as governor of Rivers State on Saturday and ordered a fresh poll.

The tribunal, headed by Suleiman Ambrosa, delivered its ruling in Abuja. It did not give a time limit for a new election to be conducted, possibly because the judgment could be appealed by the respondents.

AFTER three postponements, a former Governor of Rivers State and President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominee, Rotimi Amaechi, was finally screened on Thursday by the Senate but the exercise left the Peoples Democratic Party members of the Senate alleging betrayal.

The opposition senators have also threatened to oppose Amaechi’s confirmation when the time comes.

Tribunal Orders For Re-run In Akwa Ibom Gov Poll

The tribunal ordered for a rerun of the governorship election in the state, Vanguard reports.

The Justice Sadiq Umar-led tribunal sitting in Abuja ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct re-run election in 18 local government areas of the state. There are 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has appeared at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT)


Reports reaching us have it that Senate President, Bukola Saraki has appeared at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) where his trial for alleged false declaration of assets is continuing, with 84 senators.

This much was confirmed by Premium Times, where it was reported that his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, Dino Melaye, Stella Oduah, Samuel Anyanwu, are among some of the senators who stormed the venue of the trial earlier today.

Senate suspends sitting as Saraki’s trial begins today

THE Senate on Tuesday suspended its plenary and the ongoing screening of ministerial nominees, apparently to pave the way for the commencement of the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, for false asset declaration.

The Code of Conduct Tribunal had adjourned till October 21 to commence Saraki’s trial for the 13 charges preferred against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau, which alleged that the Senate president made false asset declaration as Kwara State governor between 2003 and 2011.
