EPL: Liverpool compound Chelsea woes, beat defending champions 3-1

Philippe Coutinho scored a brace as Liverpool came from behind to beat Chelsea 3-1 and increase the pressure on Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho went into the match amid speculation he could lose his job with a defeat, but the Chelsea supporters made a clear show of support for their manager at the start of the match.
The home side responded with a quickfire goal as Ramires sent a header past Simon Mignolet from Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross with just four minutes played.

Liverpool went in search of an equaliser but struggled to truly test Asmir Begovic until the final seconds of the half, when Philippe Coutinho created space on the edge of the area before curling a superb shot into the far corner to make it 1-1.

The second half was marked by a series of clashes, with Jurgen Klopp arguing with a member of the Chelsea bench and Diego Costa appearing to kick out at Martin Skrtel.

Mark Clattenburg then decided against giving Lucas Leiva a second yellow card for a foul on Ramires amid strong protestations from Mourinho and the Chelsea players.

Oscar came close to restoring Chelsea’s lead with 20 minutes to play, winning the ball before firing off a stunning shot from just inside the Liverpool half that brought a good save from Mignolet.
